Who we are

Our mission at the River is to "Inspire and Enable people to become fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ."  This means that everything we do, every program we create, and every budget request is measured through this statement.  If what we plan does not fit within this established mission, then we simply don't do it.

White River Valley Community Church (a.k.a. the River) exists. . .

To worship God  / To share Jesus with others / To connect believers in meaningful relationships / To prepare disciples to fulfill their purpose / To encourage and build future leaders

What We Believe

The Bible is God's Word to all people. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth and without error in the original manuscripts.

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He is one in nature, essence and substance and has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

People are made in the image of God, to be like Him in character and are the supreme object of God's creation.  When the first couple sinned, they brought both physical and spiritual death to the human race.  As a result, all human beings are born with a sinful nature, commit acts of sin in their lives, and must be reconciled to God through faith in Jesus Christ.

God the father

God the Father is an infinite, perfect, personal spirit who is sovereign over all.  He mercifully concerns Himself with the details of each person's life and He hears and answers prayers.  He saves all who come to Him from sin and death.

Jesus christ

Jesus Christ is the only Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, lived a sinless human life, performed miracles and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days and demonstrated His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven and will physically return again someday to Earth to reign forever as King.

Everyone is in need of salvation. Salvation is God's free gift extended to all, but each person must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ as God's offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin's penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his or her life by faith.

the christian life

We believe all Christians should live for Christ and not for themselves.  By obedience to the Word of God and daily yielding to the Spirit of God, every believer should mature and be conformed to the image of Christ.

the church

We believe that the church is the body of Christ, of which Jesus Christ is the head.  The members of the church are those who have trusted by faith the finished work of Christ.  The purpose of the church is to glorify God by loving Him and by making Him known to the lost world.
